One Name Can Need More Than One Class
A trademark protects your name for the specific goods and services you file it for. Here’s how that works, and how filing fees are handled.
Same name, four ways it’s used. Each class is a separate USPTO filing fee.
What’s a trademark class?i
The USPTO sorts every product and service into 45 classes: 34 for goods and 11 for services. Your registration protects your name only in the classes you file in, so choosing them correctly matters as much as the name itself.
You may need more than one class if you:
- Sell physical products and offer a service under the same name
- Sell branded merch alongside your main business
- Offer digital products (apps, downloads) and live coaching or courses
- Plan to launch a new product line under the name soon
You don’t have to figure this out alone. On your consultation, your attorney maps your business to the right classes and tells you which ones matter now and which can wait.
